RTA Vehicle Advertisement Permit in Dubai: What You Need Before You Wrap
Printing first and asking questions later is the most expensive way to brand a vehicle. Here is how RTA approval actually works in Dubai, for advertising permits and for colour change wraps, and how Bayan Branding prepares the artwork, coordinates the application and fits the graphics only once approval is in place.
- An experienced team for design, documents, submission and tracking
- Permit and branding handled as one job
- We tell you early if a design will not pass

Do You Need RTA Approval to Advertise on a Vehicle in Dubai?
- Yes, for commercial advertising. Dubai's advertising law says no one may display an advertisement without a permit, and for ads on any vehicle that permit comes from the RTA.
- Apply before you print. The design is approved first, then graphics go on. Fitting first can mean fines and forced removal.
- Agencies file the application. RTA guidance says advertising agencies registered in Dubai apply on the owner's behalf through its permit portal.
- All four sides are submitted. Artwork for the front, back, left and right of the vehicle is part of the application.
- Colour change wraps are a different process. They need colour change approval and an updated registration, not an advertising permit.
Where this applies
This page covers Dubai. Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and other emirates have their own authorities and processes, and an approval from one emirate may not be accepted in another. Always check which emirate your vehicle will operate in.
Reviewed 13 October 2026. This is general guidance, not legal advice. Confirm current rules and fees with the RTA.
How the RTA Vehicle Advertisement Permit Process Works
Six steps, in this order. The mistake we see most is swapping steps two and six.
- Choose the vehicle and the campaignDecide which vehicles carry the branding and what each one will say. One permit covers one vehicle and one design, not each sticker.
- Prepare artwork for all four sidesFront, back, left and right, on a template of your exact vehicle model. We build this first, with the rules in mind.
- Application through the RTA permit portalA registered advertising agency submits the application with your artwork and vehicle details. In special cases a request letter explaining the activity is added.
- RTA reviews the designThe RTA can approve, ask for changes or reject. If it asks for changes, we adjust the artwork and resubmit.
- Pay the fee and receive the permitFees depend on the vehicle type, whether the advertising is for your own business or others, and the duration. We show government fees separately.
- Print, fit and keep the permitOnly now do the graphics go on. Keep the permit with the vehicle, and tell us if the vehicle or design changes during its validity.
Documents and Details for an RTA Vehicle Advertising Permit
Exact requirements depend on the vehicle and the campaign. This is what applications typically need, and what we gather from you.
Artwork for all four sides
Mockups of the front, back, left and right of the vehicle showing every graphic. We prepare these on your exact model.
Vehicle details
Registration and vehicle information for each vehicle in the application.
Company and campaign details
Who is advertising, what for, and for how long. Agencies add their own details.
Request letter, where needed
Some cases, such as stickers on a particular vehicle type, need a letter explaining the activity.
Authorisation if you apply for others
If one company advertises on another's vehicles, the permission trail must be clear.
A realistic timeline
The RTA publishes its processing time for each service. We check the current one and plan your wrap date around it.
What the RTA Looks at in Your Vehicle Branding Design
The review is about safety, visibility and content. These are the points that decide whether a design is approved.
Number plates stay clear
Plates must remain fully visible and readable. Nothing wraps over them.
Lights and reflectors stay visible
Headlights, indicators, brake lights and required reflective markings are never covered.
Driver visibility is protected
Windscreen and driver windows stay clear. Perforated film is only used where it is allowed.
Content has to be acceptable
Offensive, misleading or restricted content is rejected. Artwork should not imitate emergency or official vehicles.
The colour must match the registration
A wrap that changes the vehicle's colour triggers the colour change process too.
Rules get updated
Coverage limits and content rules change over time, which is why we check before every job.
RTA Approval for a Car Wrap That Changes Colour
A colour change wrap is not an advertising permit. It is about keeping the registered colour true. Wrap without approval and you risk fines, forced removal or trouble at registration renewal. Cars registered in a personal name are limited to colour change wraps, not advertising.
Police colour change approval
The vehicle owner requests approval from Dubai Police with photos of the car and the new colour.
Wrap the car
Only after approval. We fit the wrap to your approved colour.
RTA-authorised inspection
The car is inspected at an authorised centre to confirm the change.
Update the registration
The new colour is recorded on the vehicle registration card.
If your wrap keeps the same registered colour and only changes the finish, ask us before you assume a registration update is not needed. See our car branding page for finishes, and our Dubai Police colour change permission guide for the full steps.
RTA Vehicle Advertisement Permit Fees in Dubai
The RTA sets the fees, and they differ by vehicle type, advertiser category and duration. Published examples range from small annual fees for personal advertising on motorcycles to weekly fees for event advertising on light vehicles. We confirm the current figure for your case before you commit.
What sets the fee
The vehicle type, whether the advertising is for your own business or for others, and how long the permit lasts. Short event permits are priced differently from annual ones.
What we show on your quote
Government fees are listed separately from our design, print and fitting costs, so you can see exactly what goes to the authority.
What it does not cover
Permits cover the advertisement, not the wrap itself. Printing, vinyl and installation are separate costs. See our vehicle branding cost guide.
Six RTA Permit Mistakes That Cost Businesses Money
Printing before approval
The classic. A design that fails review leaves you with film you cannot use.
Designing without checking the rules
Plates, lights and windows are the usual culprits, and they are easy to fix at the design stage.
Assuming another emirate's permit works in Dubai
Each emirate has its own authority and process.
Filing as the wrong party
Advertising applications are filed through registered agencies, and the owner's details have to match.
Forgetting changes during validity
New vehicles, replaced vehicles or redesigned graphics may need the permit updated.
Treating a colour change as an ad permit
They are different processes with different approvals, so we separate them from the start.
What Bayan Branding Does for Your RTA Permit
You should not need to learn the RTA portal to put your name on a vehicle. Here is exactly what we take off your plate.
Route and eligibility check
We confirm which approval applies to your vehicle and campaign, and tell you straight away if it is an advertisement permit, a colour change approval or both.
RTA compliance design
Four-side artwork on your exact vehicle model, with plates, lights and windows kept clear, so the design you approve is the one that gets submitted.
Content and document preparation
We check the wording and imagery on your artwork against the rules and assemble every document the application needs, so it is complete the first time.
Submission, tracking and queries
We submit the application, follow it through and handle any RTA queries or design changes, so you are not chasing a portal.
Colour change coordination
For colour change wraps we guide you through the police approval, inspection and registration update, and fit the wrap in the right order.
Fitting, records and renewals
Graphics go on only after approval. We keep the approved artwork and permit details on file and flag when changes or renewals are due.
An Experienced RTA Compliance Team Behind Every Application
RTA permits are won in the details: the right artwork, the right wording, the right documents, and someone who follows up. Our team handles all five, from the first sketch to the approved permit.
Compliance design
Designers who know the rules lay out four-side artwork on your exact vehicle, keeping plates, lights and windows clear and layouts within coverage limits.
Content preparation
We review the wording, imagery and claims on your design, so nothing misleading, restricted or unacceptable goes into the application.
Document preparation
Vehicle details, company information, request letters and mockups are collected and checked, so the application is complete the first time.
Submission
We file the application and make sure the details match both your vehicle and your artwork.
Tracking and follow-up
We watch the application, answer RTA queries, revise the artwork if asked and resubmit until it is approved.
We Get It Done
Some suppliers hand you a checklist and wish you luck. Our team does the work: designs it, checks it, prepares it, files it, follows it up and tells you when it is approved. Then we fit your graphics.

RTA Vehicle Advertisement Permit FAQs
Direct answers to what Dubai businesses ask before branding a vehicle. For vinyl, warranty and general vehicle questions see our vehicle branding FAQ.
Do I need an RTA permit for vehicle advertising in Dubai?
Yes. Commercial advertising on a vehicle in Dubai needs an RTA advertisement permit before the graphics are fitted. Under Dubai's advertising law, no advertisement may be displayed without a permit, and ads on vehicles are permitted by the RTA.
Who handles the RTA permit at Bayan Branding?
An experienced RTA compliance team handles compliance design, content preparation, document preparation, submission and tracking, and follows your application through until it is approved. Then we fit the graphics.
What does Bayan Branding do for an RTA vehicle advertisement permit?
We check which approval applies, design RTA-ready artwork for all four sides of your vehicle, prepare and submit the application, track it and handle any RTA queries or design changes. We fit the graphics once approved and keep a record of what was approved.
Can I use Bayan Branding for the permit only, without a wrap?
Yes. You can choose permit-ready artwork only, permit coordination, or the full service with fitting. Tell us what you need and we quote each part separately.
Do I pay Bayan Branding or the RTA for the permit fee?
The RTA sets the government fee, and we show it separately on your quote from our design, coordination and fitting costs, so you can see exactly where each dirham goes.
Who can apply for an RTA vehicle advertisement permit?
RTA guidance says advertising agencies registered in Dubai apply for the permit through its permit portal. Bayan Branding prepares the artwork and coordinates the application with you.
What documents are needed for an RTA vehicle advertising permit?
Applications typically need artwork showing the front, back, left and right of the vehicle, plus vehicle and company details. A request letter explaining the activity is added in special cases.
How much does an RTA vehicle advertisement permit cost?
The RTA sets the fee, and it depends on the vehicle type, whether you advertise your own business or others, and the permit duration. We confirm the current fee for your case and show it separately on your quote.
How long does RTA approval for vehicle advertising take?
The RTA publishes a processing time for each service, and design changes requested during review can add time. We check the current timing and schedule your wrap after approval.
Can I put advertising on my personal car in Dubai?
Cars registered in a personal name are generally limited to colour change wraps, not advertising. Commercial advertising needs a commercial vehicle and an RTA permit.
Do I need RTA approval for a car wrap?
If the wrap changes your car's colour, you need approval before wrapping, an inspection afterwards and an updated registration. If the registered colour stays the same, ask us before assuming no update is needed.
What happens if I advertise on a vehicle without a permit?
You risk fines, an order to remove the graphics and problems at registration renewal. Fixing it afterwards costs more than getting approval first.
Does a permit from Sharjah or Abu Dhabi work in Dubai?
Not automatically. Each emirate has its own authority and process, so approval from one may not be accepted in another. Check the emirate where the vehicle will operate.
Can I change my design after the permit is approved?
Material changes to the design or the vehicles usually need the permit updated before you print. Tell us early so we can resubmit rather than risk a rejected or void permit.
